    The goal Mastering the fundamental theoretical aspects of the morphosyntax of the English language at the level of sentence elements, verb phrases and noun phrases, paired with acquisition of key linguistic terms in the field of morphosyntax and with application of theoretical morphosyntactic knowledge in the analysis of real-life samples of the English language.
    The outcome Knowledge of basic theoretical concepts and principles of traditional, descriptive morphosyntax of the English language and the ability to apply this theoretical knowledge, using commonly accepted scientific terminology, in the form of parsing English sentences so as to identify sentence elements and conduct a detailed analysis of the internal structure and functions of verb phrases and noun phrases.
    Contents
    Contents of lectures Basic terms in descriptive grammar and morphosyntax (parts of speech, sentence elements, syntactic functions of sentence elements and their structural realization). Verbs and verb phrases (verbal paradigm, classification of verbs and verbal categories of tense, aspect, mood, voice and modality). Nouns and noun phrases (nominal paradigm, classification of nouns, determiners and pronouns, nominal categories of case, number and gender, reference as a grammatical category, structure of the noun phrase and its sentence functions).
    Contents of exercises Exercises that enable students to recognize and apply theoretical concepts in the analysis of sentences, verb and noun phrases taken from the written and spoken corpora of the English language.
