1. Number of Available Places
A total of 49 students may enrol at the Faculty, namely:
- 3 budget-funded students
- 46 self-financing students

2. Admission Requirements
Doctoral studies last a minimum of three years (180 ECTS credits) in accordance with the accredited study programmes and require the prior completion of studies amounting to at least 300 ECTS credits at Bachelor's and Master's academic levels.
A person may enrol in the first year of doctoral studies if they have:
- Completed appropriate Bachelor's and Master's academic studies with at least 300 ECTS credits and achieved a minimum average grade of 8.00, recorded in both the Bachelor's and Master's diplomas;
- Obtained the academic title of Magister of Science, provided that they have not earned a doctoral degree under previously applicable legislation within the period prescribed by law;
- Completed appropriate undergraduate studies under the regulations applicable prior to the enactment of the Law on Higher Education.
Exceptionally, a person who has completed appropriate Bachelor's and Master's academic studies prescribed by the doctoral study programme, with at least 300 ECTS credits, but whose average grade is below 8.00, may also enrol in the first year of doctoral studies if they have published at least five scientific papers in nationally or internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals.
Special Requirement for All Study Programmes
Doctoral students are expected to demonstrate active proficiency in at least one foreign language (B2 level) and passive proficiency in at least one additional foreign language (B1 level).
The compulsory assessment of the first foreign language (B2 level) must be completed by the end of the first semester. Students who do not meet the required level must retake the assessment by the end of the second year.
The assessment of the second foreign language (B1 level) is conducted during the fifth semester and must be completed no later than the end of the sixth semester of doctoral studies.
Students who have completed studies in a foreign philology are exempt from the language assessment in the language they studied but must still demonstrate B1-level proficiency in a second foreign language.
Foreign-language proficiency assessments are conducted by the Centre for Languages of the Faculty of Philosophy, and candidates will receive further information upon enrolment. Assessment fees are charged according to the Faculty's price list.
Language assessments are required for all doctoral students except those who possess an internationally recognised language certificate.

4. Documents Required for Application

Required documents:
- Application form (not required for online applications; the electronic application system is available on the Faculty's official website);
- Bachelor's degree diploma (copy, original for inspection) with Diploma Supplement, or a certificate of completion of Bachelor's academic studies (copy, original for inspection), together with the original transcript of records;
- Master's degree diploma with Diploma Supplement (copy, original for inspection), or a certificate of completion of Master's academic studies (copy, original for inspection), together with the original transcript of records;
- Magister’s diploma (copy, original for inspection);
- Original transcript of examinations completed during previous Magister’s studies;
- Certificate confirming the course of studies (required only for candidates whose studies were officially suspended at any point, for the purpose of calculating the duration of studies);
- Photocopy of an ID card; in case of ID cards with embedded chips, a printout of the electronically read ID card must be submitted (original for inspection);
- Short biographical and bibliographical statement, with emphasis on professional and scholarly work;
- Published papers in printed form (mandatory);
- Published papers in electronic form if applying online;
- Proof of payment of the application fee (RSD 20,000);
- A motivation letter and research proposal are mandatory. A letter of recommendation is optional. See Article 6a of the Regulations on Doctoral Studies:

Note: If applying electronically, all documents must be scanned or photographed. Originals must be presented at enrolment. If documents are photographed, only the document itself should appear in the image, without any background. Images must be clear and fully legible.
4a. Documents Required for Enrolment
Candidates admitted to the programme must additionally submit:
- Two ŠV-20 forms;
- Index booklet (indeks) (purchased from the Faculty bookshop);
- Two passport-sized photographs (4.5 × 3.5 cm);
- Proof of payment of the enrolment fee and collective students’ insurance fee (RSD 20,000);
- Proof of payment of the tuition fee instalment (for self-financing students).
All payments are to be made to the Faculty's bank account.
Important Note
Only internationally recognised language certificates will be taken into account as proof of foreign-language proficiency during the admission process.
Tuition Fee Payment Schedule
By decision of the Faculty Council, tuition fees may be paid in four equal instalments:
- First instalment upon enrolment;
- Second instalment by 10th January;
- Third instalment by 10th March;
- Fourth instalment upon certification of the summer semester.

6. Criteria for Ranking Candidates
Admission is conducted on the basis of the Call for admission and the ranking list of admitted candidates.
The ranking of candidates for enrolment in the first year of doctoral studies is determined in accordance with:
- the Regulations on the Admission of Candidates to study programmes implemented by the Faculty of Philosophy;
- the Regulations on Doctoral Studies and the Award of the Academic Title of Doctor of Science of the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad; and
- the accredited doctoral study programme.

Note: At the same level of study, a student may be enrolled as a budget-funded student in the first year only once.
7. Appeals Procedure
A candidate may submit an appeal concerning:
- the regularity of the admission procedure established by the Call for Admission, or
- their position on the ranking list,
within 24 hours of the publication of the preliminary ranking list.
Appeals are submitted to the Admissions Committee (during the period announced on the Faculty website). Upon the Committee's proposal, the Dean shall issue a decision within 24 hours of receiving the appeal.
8. Admission of Foreign Nationals
A foreign national may enrol in a study programme under the conditions regulated by the general provisions of the joint call announced by the Ministry of Education..
Foreign nationals are required to pay tuition fees throughout their studies unless otherwise provided by an international agreement or a bilateral university agreement.
A foreign national may enrol if, in accordance with the University's Statute:
- a certificate of Serbian language proficiency in accordance with the Statute of the University, or proficiency of the language of instruction;
- a proof of valid medical insurance.
When applying for the call, foreign nationals are required to submit a validated diploma of their completed Bachelor's degree programme of the same or related field of study.
If the validation procedure is not completed by the application deadline, the applicant may submit a proof that the validation procedure is in progress. If the applicant becomes entitled to enrol and the validation procedure has not been completed, they may enrol conditionally, provided that the recognition decision is submitted before the classes begin.
Foreign nationals must submit officially recognised (validated) diplomas from previously completed levels of education when applying.
If the recognition procedure has not been completed by the application deadline, candidates may submit proof that the procedure is ongoing. Candidates who gain admission before recognition is completed may enrol conditionally, provided that they submit the final recognition decision before classes begin.
The applicants from Republika Srpska are exempt from diploma validation requirement.
Prior to enrolment, a foreign applicant is required to submit the following documents the Faculty:
- a proof of valid medical insurance covering the period of the enrolled academic year;
- a certificate of the Serbian language proficiency, issued by an authorized committee.
The assessment of Serbian language proficiency is conducted by the Centre for Serbian as a Foreign Language at the Faculty.
Fees:
- Issuing a certificate of a Serbian language proficiency to students from the former Yugoslav republics (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro): RSD 2,500.00.
- Serbian language proficiency assessment and certificate: RSD 9,000.00.
